Morocco Desert
& Culture — 8 days

Marrakech, the High Atlas, Aït Benhaddou, a private camp deep in Erg Chebbi, and Fes el-Bali — guided by people who grew up walking these streets.

8 days · 7 nights Private — 2 to 6 travelers ★ 4.9 · 412 reviews Marrakech → Sahara → Fes

Why we love this route

Morocco rewards travelers who slow down. We've spent twelve years refining this loop — long enough to find the riad with the right rooftop, the historian who'll open palace gates for you, the camp that puts you 200 kilometers from the nearest streetlight. Eight days is the minimum we recommend; you'll wish you'd taken ten.

Best for: travelers who want depth without backpack-grit. Honeymooners, multi-gen families with older kids, and anyone who's been to the obvious destinations and wants something more textured.

What travelers say

4.9
★★★★★
412 verified reviews
★★★★★
“The desert camp night was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Voya read us perfectly — no group tours, no cliché tagine spots, just the country we came for.”
★★★★★
“Hassan, our guide, became family by day three. We learned more about Morocco from him than from a dozen guidebooks. The riads were extraordinary, every single one.”
★★★★★
“I'm a difficult traveler — I've been everywhere and I notice everything. Voya didn't miss a beat. Every transfer was on time. Every meal was the right meal.”
★★★★☆
“Genuinely the best-organized trip we've taken. One half-star off only because the Day 6 drive is long — but Voya had warned us, and the cars were extremely comfortable.”

Frequently asked

When is the best time to do this route?

October–April. We avoid June–August in the desert — daytime temperatures regularly exceed 110°F. Shoulder months (April, October) are our personal favorite: warm days, cool nights, low light for photography.

Is this trip private, or do we join a group?

Fully private. You travel with your own guide and driver from the moment you land. No bus, no other travelers, no fixed departure dates. We book it around your calendar.

How physically demanding is it?

Moderate. The camel ride is about 45 minutes each way — we can shorten it or swap to a 4×4 if needed. Walking in the medinas adds up; expect 8,000–12,000 steps on Fes and Marrakech days.

What's the deposit and cancellation policy?

25% to confirm; balance due 60 days before departure. Cancel 60+ days out: full refund minus a $400 planning fee. 30–60 days: 50%. Inside 30 days: non-refundable. We strongly recommend travel insurance.

Can you accommodate dietary needs?

Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, kosher, and allergies. Every restaurant and host is briefed in advance, and your guide carries a card translating your requirements into Arabic and French.

Is alcohol available?

In your riads and at most restaurants we use, yes. The desert camp is dry by tradition — we can carry in wine for you if you'd like. Morocco is a Muslim country and the souks themselves don't serve alcohol.
